| "It's Alive!!!!!!" Dr. Henry Frankenstein
I can imagine such exclamations when people find out I am posting after almost a year of silence. Yes, I am alive and well! It's fortuitous that I stopped posting with an autumn background as we are in the middle of autumn once again and I am missing the changing of the leaves and the crisp, wild fall air I grew up with in Indiana. At least we have a cool front coming through tonight that will cause the temperatures to drop a bit!
The book I am reading right now is Hearing God by Dallas Willard. "Hearing God becomes a reliably clear and practical matter for the mind that is transformed by the washing of the word."

| Let's see - how many times
have I been tagged for movies? I have one question.....only
5? Wow, that's hard. Well, 5 that I like, in no special
order are....
Hunt for Red October
Pirates of the Caribbean: Black Pearl
My Big Fat Greek Wedding
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (old one)
LOTR series
Fiddler on the Roof
I know that's 6....I'm
being non-conformist. Do you know what's great about
musicals? You can go around the house for hours afterwards
singing the songs and watch TJ's eyes roll back in his head. "All
day long I'd biddy biddy bum...If I were a wealthy man!" "Ooompa
Loompa Doompidy Do... I've got another riddle for
you..."
Speaking of TJ, he is in the front yard beating two reindeer with a baseball bat. I'll let him explain that one.

| Hello Fellow Xanga-ites!
I have good news and bad news. The good news
is that our house and DH and DS came through Wilma just fine. We
lost a palm tree and had to stake up my guava trees, but that is a
small price. There is a ton of landscaping damage around
town. Two friends lost their pool cages and one little girl's
playhouse ended up in their cul de sac from the back yard. We
were without power until last (Saturday) night. It is good to
have electricity again!
I was in Houston during Wilma - I was working at the huge quilting
trade show in my quilt desginer friend's booth. (It - along with
the International Quilt Festival the next week - is the largest yearly
convention in Houton.) It was fun - but it was sobering to keep
chceking up on Wilma and to see it head straight for Naples. People
would see our hometown on our name-tags and ask, "Isn't it good to be
here out of the way of the hurricane?" and we would answer, "Not when
your family is still there in the cross hairs!" The people
running the trade show were real nice and set up a TV for us to keep
tabs on the Weather Channel....well, except for the time I went down to
check it and some guy had changed it to a football game! I
started changing it back and the guy (from another booth) started to
protest, "We've had that Weather Channel on for hours!" Well, duh
- that's why it is there! I replied that some of us had family in
Wilma's path and wanted to check the weather once in a while. I
was able to keep phone contact with DH during the storm so was quite
relieved when she passed and they were OK. My friend and I flew
back in Tuesday evening.
The bad news is that I
was all excited to get online again last night as the electricity came
back on, but my computer booted up, acted crazy, and crashed. Our
attempts to save anything has been in vain so far - but DH will take
the hard drive to our local computer place and see if we can salvage
anything. So.... for the time being I have lost my address book
and files and such. DH's computer had a catastrophic hard drive
failure a month ago - we are not doing so well with computers
here!
I have been enjoying the lovely fall weather that followed Wilma.
It made being without AC and having the windows open a delight.
Hope everyone else is doing well, too!
Love, K

| Change is in the air! The change isn't great here in Naples, yet, but I have noticed the air being cooler at night and some cooler breezes. I am still a Monkophile, but it was time for a change in my xanga, too. I love autumn. It is the only time of the year that I get a little homesick for northern Indiana where I grew up. We had thick woods on two sides of the house and the wild autumn winds would make them roar - one of my favorite sounds. There are no roaring woods in Florida - though the waves can roar, and I love that sound, too.

| Retreat!!!!!!
No, I’m not pulling back from the front lines of battle……well, maybe in a sense I am. I am leaving on a quilt retreat tomorrow morning with some friends and will be back Sunday evening. Four days of fun, sewing, and laughter. Someone else makes my bed. Someone else cooks. All I gotta do is bring along any projects I want to work on – and these retreats are the only time I get to spend concentrated time on a project. Those who have seen me hand-quilting my Homespun Stars quilt – I pieced the top together at the retreat I attended last spring. It’s a wonderful respite from daily cares and I get to be creative as well. Maybe when I get back I’ll get T to help me post some pictures. See you Sunday! | | |
